DIGNITY IN BLUE

By Charles Lacey

I’ve died a thousand times before … I’ll probably die a thousand more … as I face the uncertainties of the day … for I am more than just a number and a name … I am honesty, sincerity and dignity in blue … I’m the guardian of your days and nights … asking little in return … except that which I earn, as protector of your rights … cut down sometimes with words cold and cruel … and often help up to ridicule … judged from the actions of a few … never shall I compromise or tarnish the shield, worn by the finest in blue … they say we are a breed apart … possessing no love and having no heart … but those who know us, know it’s not true … God knows … I’m no different than you.
