Mahoning Valley Ambulance Association

The purpose of the association is to provide emergency medical service to the people in the coverage area, to give aid to the sick and injured, to seek at all times materials and methods for the betterment of emergency services, and to promote community welfare.  The association also works in conjunction with the local high school to provide emergency response training. 

The association was organized as a volunteer ambulance corps in June 1973.  The association first answered 48 calls per year and now responds to on average 545 calls annually with two fully equipped ambulances.  The squad has been state certified since 1989.  The headquarters is located at 902 Mill Road and serves Mahoning and East Penn Townships.  The ambulance association also serves as an emergency shelter.

The Mahoning Valley Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 received its charter in 1951. At the present time the fire company has about 35 active firefighters and two (2) fire police that respond to between 160 and 170 emergency calls per year. They are equipped with one pumper, one tanker, one pumper-rescue and two brush units. Not only do they provide fire protection to the residents of Mahoning Township, they also provide mutual aid to Lehighton Borough, Franklin Township, Summit Hill Borough, East Penn Township, Jim Thorpe Borough, West Penn Township and Penn Forest Township.

In addition to responding to emergency calls, the fire company also teaches fire prevention to the community, local schools and nursing homes. The fire department is owned and operated by its members, with an annual operating budget of around $36,000.00. They also run an alcohol free social hall that is used for wedding receptions, banquets, birthday parties, etc.

The Mahoning Township Police Department is a full service police department providing quality service to our community.  The department is staffed by six (6) full time police officers.  Twenty-four hour township wide patrol and emergency response services are provided. The Mahoning Township Police Department is headquartered at 2685 Mahoning Drive East, Lehighton, PA.

CALLS FOR SERVICE: To call the business line of the Police Department to report an emergency or non-emergency event delays a prompt response. To ensure proper timely reporting and prompt response, the below numbers should be called. In this way the dedicated Officers of the Mahoning Township Police Department can perform their duties expeditiously for Township residents, businesses or anyone else needing Police assistance. And by calling the Carbon County Communications Center there is a chronological record of the call for service and other related information.
