The Mahoning Township Zoning Board is the body of the township responsible for reviewing the rulings of the Zoning Officer and granting variances to the zoning ordinance when needed within the municipality. The body meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 P.M. in the municipal building and can be reached through the township office. Building permits are required in Mahoning Township. The Mahoning Township Municipal Authority was established on June 11, 1975 but was inactive for many years. The authority was reactivated in 1997 to regulate the township pump station, hook ups, and to address the township’s needs and participation in the Central Carbon Municipal Authority which controls the sewer plant.

The Mahoning Township Planning Commission is the body of the township responsible for reviewing all land development plans within the municipality and making recommendations based on reviews by the Township engineer and other experts. The body meets the third Wednesday of the month at 6:00 P.M. in the municipal building and can be reached through the township office.
